Join us for the Sofala Carp Blitz 2026, a fun-filled weekend on the beautiful Turon River, where anglers of all ages come together to help protect our waterways while enjoying a fantastic community event.
More than just a fishing competition, the Sofala Carp Blitz is about reducing the population of invasive European carp, improving habitat for native fish and wildlife, and bringing families, friends and the local community together.
Whether you're an experienced angler or casting a line for the very first time, everyone is welcome!

🪝Sofala Carp Blitz 2026 – Competition Rules
The competition is open to all ages.
-Junior competitors are those under 16 years of age on the first day of the competition.
-All participants must register before entering any fish.
-Fishing is permitted in the Turon River and its tributaries.
-Competitors must respect private property and obtain the landowner's permission before entering private land.
⌛Competition Times
-Fishing commences at 12:01 am on Saturday, 21st November 2026.
-The final weigh-in closes at 2:00 pm on Sunday, 22nd November 2026.
-Competitors must be in the official weigh-in queue by 2:00 pm for their fish to be eligible. Fish presented after this time will not be accepted.
🏹🎣The following methods are permitted:
-Rod and reel
-Fly fishing
-Bow fishing - Below the 1st crossing. (General Trout Steam above 1st crossing)
-All fishing methods must comply with current NSW recreational fishing regulations.
⚖️Weigh-in
Official weigh-in times are:
Saturday 21st November 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Sunday 22nd November 8:00 am – 2:00 pm
-Only European Carp and Redfin are eligible for weigh-in.
-All fish must be dispatched as quickly and humanely as possible and presented in a condition suitable for accurate weighing. Fish that are excessively deteriorated, damaged or decomposed may be refused at the discretion of the organiser’s.
-Competitors must be in the official weigh-in queue by 2:00 pm on Sunday 22nd November 2026. Fish presented after this time will not be accepted.
-In the event of a tie in any prize category, the prize will be awarded to the competitor whose eligible fish or bag was weighed first.
🛟Safety
-All competitors participate entirely at their own risk.
-Children under 16 years of age must be supervised by a responsible adult.
-Please be aware of changing river conditions, weather, wildlife and other hazards.
-Competitors are responsible for using their equipment safely and in accordance with all applicable laws.
🪪Compliance
-Competitors must comply with all current NSW recreational fishing regulations and hold a valid NSW Recreational Fishing Fee receipt where required.
-Any breach of NSW fisheries legislation or these competition rules may result in disqualification.
📷Photography
By entering the competition, participants consent to photographs and video taken during the event being used by the Sofala Carp Blitz organiser’s for promotional purposes unless they advise the organiser’s otherwise whilst registering for the event.
📋Liability
The organiser’s accept no responsibility for any injury, loss, theft or damage to persons, vehicles or equipment during the event.
Most importantly, have fun, fish responsibly, respect the river and help protect our waterways for future generations.
