This Scottish classic sees the roaring 90s brought to life through the gritty and bleak reality of a group of friends plagued by addiction. Told through the eyes of Renton, a young, easily influenced addict who is desperate to get clean and get on the right track. But the pull of Edinburgh's drug scene and his equally drug-dependent friends make things harder to cut off than he hoped.

Danny Boyle’s 1996 adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s literary masterpiece is a longstanding staple of British Youth culture, exploring the push and pull between getting straight and the lure of youth’s volatility.

This screening is part of the BFI FAN UK-wide season, Rip It Up, celebrating British youth culture on screen and its ever-groundbreaking impact in shaping politics, music, film and TV.
