Social Workers for Change: How social workers can play a role in social justice advocacy and the ethical considerations in social change

This social justice advocacy and ethics course equips social workers and advocates with knowledge and skills to identify and address social injustices from a social work and ethics perspective. The course explores the intersection of ethics, social justice advocacy, and traditional social work fields, and includes an identification and examination of some practical strategies social workers can apply to social justice advocacy work across various settings. Participants will also learn about social justice history and contemporary issues, develop advocacy-related next steps, and explore their role in promoting social change.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will:
- Examine a brief history of Social Justice Advocacy to cultivate a working knowledge of major theories of social justice advocacy.
- Identify frameworks for incorporating advocacy across the social work field and the ethical considerations in advocacy work for social change.
- Create practical strategies to promote social equity and justice in their social justice advocacy work considering NASW’s Code of Ethics.
- Engage in an open and structured dialogue on the ethics of their work as they prepare to implement their next steps.
