Social & Emotional Skills for Young Learners (Ages 5–9)
This weekly social skills group offers homeschool children ages 5-9 a chance to connect with peers while building important emotional and social skills through the framework of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Rooted in evidence-based practice, the group provides a consistent and supportive space where children can explore their emotions, grow in self-awareness, and practice communication in meaningful ways.
Each session offers a familiar routine that children come to recognize and feel comfortable with. We begin by helping children identify and name how they're feeling, using language and visuals to build emotional awareness. From there, we introduce a DBT-based skill such as mindfulness, emotional regulation, or coping with big feelings. These skills are explored through open discussion and playful conversation, encouraging children to share their thoughts and experiences in a way that feels natural and validating. We end with an activity that helps reinforce the skill, allowing children to express themselves creatively or connect with others through play.
This group is not a traditional classroom; it’s a space for reflection, interaction, and emotional growth. Children are encouraged to show up as they are, and through gentle facilitation, they begin to build the tools they need for future friendships, learning environments, and everyday life. Families can expect their children to gain confidence, strengthen their social-emotional vocabulary, and feel more prepared to navigate both the joys and challenges of growing up.
