Andrew Bergman, known for screenplays such as “Blazing Saddles” and “Fletch,” wrote just one stage play, "Social Security." We celebrate the 40th anniversary of the play's opening on Broadway. This hilarious comedy brings together two very different worlds—and a family that’s about to collide! A successful New York art-dealer couple enjoys a comfortable life until the wife’s strait-laced sister and her uptight CPA husband arrive on the scene. Then their irrepressible Jewish mother moves in, turning everyone’s lives upside-down. When Grandma unexpectedly falls for an elderly minimalist artist—the couple’s most important client—the family’s carefully ordered world takes an uproarious turn. With sharp wit, irresistible characters, and plenty of surprises, Social Security is ultimately a warm, funny celebration of family, love, second chances, and the possibility of reinvention at any age.
