Join Tougaloo College and Mississippi for a Just World for a special Social Justice Week Convocation featuring Emad Al Turk, founder of Mississippi for a Just World.
This evening convocation offers a space for reflection, intellectual engagement, and collective grounding as the Tougaloo community gathers to consider the meaning of justice, solidarity, and human dignity in our world today.
Emad Al Turk’s keynote will explore the concept of global solidarity, emphasizing that movements for freedom, dignity, and self-determination do not exist in isolation. Across geographies and generations, struggles for justice remain connected by shared moral commitments: a deep belief in human dignity and a refusal to accept systems of oppression, dispossession, and exclusion.
The event will also reflect on Tougaloo College’s enduring legacy as an institution rooted in the civil rights movement and committed to scholarship, civic engagement, and moral imagination. This convocation invites students, faculty, staff, and community members to consider how historical memory can shape contemporary responsibility and how local struggles for justice remain connected to global human rights movements.
