Mississippi for a Just World (MSJW) invites you to another evening of the Voices for a Just World lecture series, featuring Tamika D. Mallory and Linda Sarsour.
Voices for a Just World is a community lecture series rooted in the belief that Mississippi’s freedom struggles are deeply connected to global struggles for human rights and liberation. Through this series, MSJW and its partners bring forward courageous thinkers and organizers who challenge us to imagine a more just and connected world—and to build the relationships and strategies needed to make it real.
Featured Speakers
Tamika D. Mallory is a bestselling author, award-winning social justice leader, and movement strategist. A powerful and influential organizer, she has been at the forefront of major justice movements, from fighting voter suppression to advocating for Breonna Taylor.
As the youngest-ever Executive Director of the civil rights organization, National Action Network, Tamika helped create New York City’s $100 million Crisis Management System for gun violenceintervention and prevention. She made history as a national co-chair of the 2017 Women’s March, the largest single-day demonstration in U.S. history.
In 2020, Tamika’s impassioned speech during the George Floyd protests in Minneapolis went viral, resonating with millions around the world and becoming the foundation for her bestselling book, STATE OF EMERGENCY: How We Win in the Country We Built, a powerful call to action for systemic change. In early 2025, she released I LIVED TO TELL THE STORY, a coming-of-age memoir that offers a deeply personal reflection on her journey as a curious young girl growing up in Harlem, NY to an internationally known activist.
Now, as co-founder of Until Freedom, she continues her work organizing and advocating for marginalized communities. She also serves as co-host and executive producer of the TMI Podcast (Tamika & Mysonne’s Information) on iHeart Radio’s Black Effect Network.
Named one of Time 100’s Most Influential People and featured on Fortune’s list of the World’s Greatest Leaders, Tamika has received numerous honors, including the Phoenix Award from the Congressional Black Caucus.
Tamika remains relentless in her mission to empower and uplift disenfranchised communities, standing firm on the frontlines for freedom and equality—all while embracing her most cherished roles as a mother and grandmother.
Linda Sarsour Linda Sarsour is an award-winning racial justice and civil rights activist, seasoned community organizer, direct action strategist, and mother of three. Ambitious, outspoken and independent, Linda shatters stereotypes of Muslim women while also treasuring her religious and ethnic heritage. She is a Palestinian Muslim American and a self-proclaimed “pure New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn!” She is the co-founder of the first Muslim online organizing platform, MPower Change and co-founder of Until Freedom, an intersectional racial justice organizationfocused on direct action and power building in communities of color. Until Freedom is best known for their work on the Breonna Taylor police M**der case in Louisville, Kentucky.
Linda was one of the national co-chairs of the largest single day protest in US history, the Women’s March on Washington. She has been named amongst 500 of the most influential Muslims in the world. She was recognized as one of Fortune’s 50 Greatest Leaders and featured as one of Time Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world. Linda was the youngest woman and first Muslim to receive the Margaret Brent Medal at St. Mary’s College. She has been honored by dozens of local and national entities including the New York Women’s Foundation, Jews for Racial and Economic Justice, The New York City Council, President Barack Obama, Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, The Black Institute, NAACP New York Conference, the Ms. Foundation amongst others. Linda’s received the 2023 Daughter of Greatness Award from The Muhammad Ali Center and the 2023 Heman M. Sweatt Award from the National Bar Association. Linda’s most recent honor was receiving the 2025 Vanguard Award from the historic Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz Center in New York. Linda is the author of, “We Are Not Here to Be Bystanders: A Memoir of Love & Resistance” published by Simon & Schuster. She is most recognized for her transformative intersectional organizing work and movement building.
