Social Housing Drop-In Sessions (St Paul's)

Housing costs are rising across the nation. While this is an issue for many, minoritised communities are impacted at disproportionate rates due to socioeconomic and structural factors.

While Black and minoritised communities need to access support with housing, they face barriers such as a lack of knowledge of options and resources available. BSWN research into the experiences of minoritised communities in social housing included speaking to a range of actors in this area such as community strategic leaders. A key point raised was the complexity of the housing register bidding process, the bureaucracy around social housing.

These workshops, in partnership with Bristol City Council and Housing Matters, provide a useful starting point to bridging this gap by addressing questions and concerns members of minoritised communities have regarding social housing. By providing a space for engagement, these workshops are intended to improve accessibility to council housing services leading to a more productive relationship between the Council and these communities.

The session will be focused on the following issues identified by minoritised communities:

• Anti-Social Behaviour
• Damp and Mould
• HomeChoice
• Repairs
• Welfare Rights and Money Advice Service (WRAMAS)

BSWN will be running this session with the support of the Docklands Community Centre. Docklands Community Centre is based in St Pauls and has been serving communities in the local area since 1927. Docklands regularly hosts youth sessions through Full Circle and ACE.

Who is this event for?

This event is for Black and Minoritised council housing tenants of Bristol City Council who wish to engage with the Council and resolve queries around the following issues:

• Anti-Social Behaviour
• Damp and Mould
• HomeChoice
• Repairs & Maintenance
• Welfare Rights and Money Advice Service (WRAMAS)

What will be covered?

Council housing tenants will have access to a one-on-one meeting with Housing representatives.

Who will we hear from?

Representatives from Bristol City Council:

• Housing Management and Estates Team on anti social behaviour,
• Repairs and Maintenance Team on damp, mould and repairs
• Housing Allocations Team on HomeChoice
• Welfare Rights and Money Advice Service (WRAMAS)
• The local St Paul's Council Housing Officer
