Sunday 15th December, Sonny's Fried Chicken & Burgers (The Curtin) with Greer Clemens Band!!
Snowy and The Great Divides have both put out albums this year & in true jumble pop spirit decided to come together and bring their songs to a first ever gig at the Sonny’s Fried Chicken & Burgers (The Curtin).
“Philharmonic” is the latest Snowy side-quest - conceived of as album in-full while touring the US earlier in 2024; sketches of the songs were written and ‘demoed’ quickly at soundchecks, themes and words noted slowly over long drives. The only document of this - my phone containing all of the raw data - weirdly disappeared somewhere between LA and Melbourne, somehow lost forever to Qantas flight QF96.
Upon returning to the county and moving to Sydney briefly to pursue an acting career, Liam (aka Snowy) began piecing the album back together from memory, recorded mostly in hotel rooms, and house-sits.
‘(i’m sure)’ by The Great Divides is a tentative declaration of intent that they’ll find a way no matter the obstacle. Teetering towards falling apart and then exploding out in a cacophony of sound. Starting in their backyard and ending in their shed, engineered & co-produced by Daniel Oke (Jarrow), this soon to be jumble pop classic is like your second hand bike, a little bit janky, yet, you can’t help but love it. Throughout the record The Great Divides reward your patience, the songs set their own pace, culminating
in choruses filled with a myriad of eclectic instruments.
