I’ve always wanted to lead a Snow Leopard photo tour. In that vein, my first attempt was in 2018 when I traveled without clients to Ladakh, India. While I saw eight different cats on that trip, the leopards were too far away for me to capture a decent image.

After lots of research, I believe we can get closer to these secretive cats in Mongolia. Based on both my research and discussions with my contacts, this trip presents one of the world’s very best opportunities for capturing images of wild Snow Leopards. (Worldwide, there are only about 7,500 in the wild.)

Not only that, but the elevation is significantly lower than the India location: 6,500 to 9,000 feet vs. 13,200 feet. This is a big deal as the altitude in Ladakh caused much suffering.

The tour takes place in winter because that’s when the cats are most accessible. In November to March the snow leopards follow their prey down from higher altitudes to escape the deep snow.
