Snare drums are the heartbeat of both orchestral percussionists and drum kit players — and for many musicians, the lifelong pursuit of the sound. In Snare Galore, join some of Singapore’s most respected percussionists from both the classical and pop music scenes for one of the geekiest, nerdiest snare drum sessions you’ll ever attend.

Hosted by Benjamin Boo — Principal Percussionist of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, co-founder of Reverberance Ltd., and a leading figure in the local percussion community — this casual and in-depth evening brings together a shared love for drums, sound, and craft.

Benjamin will be joined by fellow percussionists and educators Mario Choo (Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Yong Siew Toh Conservatory), Hazizi Jaafar (founder of Arrows Music), and drum maker George Leslie Paul of Pantheon Percussion. Together, they’ll showcase a selection of personal, rare, and interesting snare drums while sharing how each instrument was chosen, what makes it special, and how small details — from drumheads and shells to strainers and hardware — dramatically shape the sound.

This session is equal parts workshop, showcase, and open conversation. Expect plenty of demonstrations, nerdy deep-dives, and honest discussion about the obsession with tone that connects orchestral percussionists and drummers alike. Selected participants may even get the chance to try some of the featured snare drums themselves.
