In honor of Child Abuse Prevention Month in April and Foster Care Awareness Month in May, RISE at Fairmont State University is hosting a community-wide collection of teddy bears to be donated and distributed in partnership with West Virginia CASA, a statewide child advocacy network. RISE (Resilience, Independence, Support, Empowerment) is a supportive and empowering network of foster care or kinship care alumni, advocates, and allies, including Fairmont State’s Middle College program. As a group of students with lived experience, RISE is dedicated to cultivating a sense of belonging, promoting academic achievement, encouraging personal development, and advocating for the unique needs of those who have experienced the child welfare system.
If your organization or group would like to host a teddy bear collection, please complete the form and select a donation drop-off date and time. Once submitted, you will receive a confirmation with delivery instructions. Please email. [email protected] with any questions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bears should be new, with no visible wear.
- Bears should be 12 inches or smaller.
- Organizations may tie small notes of encouragement around the bear's neck with ribbon. Please, DO NOT sign off with individual names; rather, use the name of your organization to sign cards.
- Notes may say things like: "You are loved." "Sending you a bear hug." "This bear is a little companion to give you strength to see you through."
