Slow Craft Saturday- Pine Needle Basket Making

Pine Needle Basket Coiling
Part of our Farm School Program
Come join us on the Homestead for a morning of handwork, fellowship, and learning a beautiful folk skill from the natural world around us.
Using the longleaf pine needles native to our region, we will learn the traditional art of pine needle basket coiling—gathering a humble material from the land and patiently transforming it into something beautiful and useful.
At Wren Haven Homestead, we believe there is great value in learning the skills that once belonged to everyday life but have become unfamiliar to many of us. Working with our hands teaches us to slow down, to notice, to persevere, and to take pleasure in the process of making something well. These are skills worth preserving and passing along.
This class welcomes adults and older children ages 12 and up.
No previous experience is necessary.
All supplies included.
We will work together at an unhurried pace, learning each stitch and enjoying the companionship that comes when we gather around a table with a common work in our hands. Pine needle basketry is a slow craft. Plan to spend approximately 3–4 hours creating a small basket, and come prepared to enjoy the process rather than hurry toward the finished piece.
Bring a sack lunch and settle in for a lovely morning on the Homestead. We’ll provide some of our artisan teas to sip as we work, visit, and rediscover the simple joy of making something with our own two hands.
Come learn a nearly-forgotten skill, work with a gift from the land, and leave with something useful, beautiful, and entirely your own.
