Sligeach - the Shelly Place
About this Event
A talk with Sam Moore MIAI of ATU and Dr Rory Connolly, Research fellow, Trinity Centre for Environmental Humanities, School of Histories and Humanities, Trinity College Dublin.
This talk explores human interaction with the coastline of Sligo during prehistory, where people gathered shellfish, cooked them and discarded the shells to form 'dumps' that are still visible today. The talk provides an analysis of a recent radiocarbon dating project carried out at a number of these sites in Sligo and also examines threats to these sensitive archaeological sites caused by climate change.
