About this Event
Sleeping porches could be found all over Galveston in the first four decades of the 20th century, but their presence was not solely based on the desire for comfort during hot, steamy nights. In this presentation by architectural historian Margaret Culbertson, learn more about the development and architectural variety of porches designed for fresh air sleeping across the nation at a time when tuberculosis presented a serious threat to public health. Although most are no longer used for their original purpose, this talk helps you identify many surviving examples in Galveston's historic houses.
