Come out for a poetry open mic & poetry slam at Beer Brats & Beats with a featured reading from Roxy Allen!
About this Event

We are back for a first show of the month... but with a couple of changes!

Join us on JULY 3RD - a WEDNESDAY - for an IN PERSON poetry open mic AND poetry slam!

This show is shifting a day early to avoid the federal holiday.

And we're taking a two month hiatus from our normal first show of the month venue - so join us at our temporary venue BEER BRATS & BEATS for this event!

Sign-ups start are at 6:30 PM, show begins at 7:00 PM.

This show will still have a poetry open mic and feature like normal, BUT we'll also be including a poetry slam at this show! Poets in the open mic get 3 minutes on the mic to share one poem, or two *very* short poems. Poets in the slam must come prepared with two original pieces, both of which should be 3 minutes or less.

Just poetry on the mic - no music or stand up.

This show is all ages.
This show is free to attend, but we will be accepting donations. Suggested donation is $5.

We will have a feature from Roxy Allen!

Roxy Allen is a nonbinary queer teaching artist whose work is a reflection of their life; messy, vulnerable, and beautiful. They are a death doula and stylist based in the Pacific Northwest. They have been involved in the national spoken word community since 2002. They have worked as an organizer, volunteer and poet. They are the longest running consecutive champion in the history of the Eugene Poetry Slam. In 2022, they worked with the Department of Defense they developed curriculum to teach art therapy as a form of rehabilitation for severely injured soldiers. In 2020, they developed curriculum for hospice organizations in Lane County utilizing poetry as a form of grief processing for adolescents and teens. They believe that life and death, like joy and pain, are inextricably linked and their work is a clear reflection of that. With topics ranging from abortion to IBS and incest to terminal illness and care giving and the best Korean hot dogs in Portland, they will make you laugh and possibly cry, especially if you’re a Pisces.
