MANCHESTER, NH – On Thursday, July 2, 2026, Slam Free Or Die - Poetry Open Mic & Slam continues its popular open mic poetry series at Stark Brewing Company. This week, we will start with the weekly open mic at 8pm and follow it with a feature!! There is a $5 cover and this is an all-ages show. About the Feature:
Scott Beal is the author of Stegosaurus Moon (Dzanc Books, 2026) and Wait ‘Til You Have Real Problems (Dzanc Books, 2014), as well as the chapbooks The Octopus (Gertrude Press, 2016) and Two Shakespearean Madwomen Vs. the Detroit Red Wings (White Eagle Coffee Store Press, 1998). His poems have appeared in journals such as Rattle, Pleiades, Prairie Schooner, Beloit Poetry Journal, Indiana Review, Muzzle, Sonora Review, and Michigan Quarterly Review, and have received awards including a Pushcart Prize. He co-authored Jangle the Threads with Rachel McKibbens and Aracelis Girmay (Red Beard Press, 2010) and Underneath: The Archaeological Approach to Creative Writing with Jeff Kass (Red Beard Press, 2011). He directs the Lloyd Scholars for Writing and the Arts at the University of Michigan and teaches in the Sweetland Center for Writing. He co-hosts the Skazat! online poetry series and co-edits the literary journal Public School Poetry. He has led poetry and fiction workshops for the Dzanc Writer-in-Residence Program at Ann Arbor Open School, the Neutral Zone, the InsideOut Literary ArtsProject, 826michigan, and other organizations. He’s performed at schools, bookstores, and poetry slams around the country, including the Cantab Lounge, the Green Mill, the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, the Individual World Poetry Slam, and elsewhere. He lives in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
Accessibility Information:
The entrance to our show is at the back of the building with no stairs to enter the space. There is a ramp through the main bar for access to the ADA compliant bathrooms. For any other accessibility questions message our page or ask a staff member at the show.

Slam Free Or Die @ Stark Brewing Company is a series of open mic nights for poets and spoken-word artists every Thursday night in Manchester, NH. There is an open mic every night and poetry slams are also held several times a month. Doors open and sign-ups begin at 7pm with open mic beginning at 8pm. Featured poets and slams follows the open mic. Come and enjoy the delicious food and beverages at Stark Brewing Company! There is a $5 cover charge. This is an all-ages show in a private function room. For more information: e-mail [email protected]. Stark Brewing Company is located next to Arms Park at 500 N. Commercial Street in Manchester, NH. There is plenty of free parking at the rear of the building (facing the river) and you can feel free to use the entrance on that side.
