Come learn how to turn slabs into playful volumes for building dynamic pots and finish your surfaces with rich colors and textures using terra sigillata and washes! What's terra sigillata? Keep reading!
This workshop will teach both strategies for building forms with clay slabs and techniques using terra sigillata as a surface design material (a ultra fine colored clay slip). In the morning, Dehmie will use templates and soft and stiff slab construction techniques to demonstrate building boat and bowl forms. You will have time to then build your own! In the afternoon, Dehmie will show how she creates the depth, warmth and texture in her surfaces using layers of colored terra sigillatas and washes.
This workshop will be hosted at the Fox St Studio location - 49 Fox St - but is open to anyone! Please bring mid-fire (cone 5/6) clay only!
