About this Event

"If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere."

- Vincent Van Gogh

If you find beauty in nature and you want to gain confidence in how to express it in drawing and sketching, join us on this sketch-walk to celebrate the beauty of the Misbourne and its riparian habitat.

The workshop is open to anyone willing to have a go at drawing and experiment a little. We will be immersing ourselves in the nature of the River Misbourne around Old Amersham by walking and sketching. You will learn to observe and sketch quickly, interspersed with some very short walks. It's a great way to record what you see and to become more mindful in nature. There will be some short exercises and then a longer session to sketch. We will explore some different places along the Misbourne within the Old Amersham area.

Walk and Sketch leader

We are very grateful that Adrian Porter has offered to run this art session for the CCSP. Adrian (not to be confused with our mananger of the Chalk Streams Project!) is a retired Computer Science teacher and a qualified Mountain Leader and a keen bird watcher and naturalist. He has always been passionately interested in using sketching to be more observant when out walking. He runs workshops to encourage others to do the same. You can see his artwork on Instagram @porters.sketches

What to bring

If you are attending, please bring your own preferred materials to draw with: a pencil or pen, watercolours or coloured pencils if you have them, and a sketch pad. We will have some spares and lots of suggestions for materials if you want to take it further.

Please bring your own water/ snacks. There are food and drink outlets in Old Amersham.

Please dress appropriately for the weather. We hope for a beautiful sunny summer afternoon, but we are in the UK after all... so, water-proofs, sun lotion, sun hat and walking shoes. Feel free to bring a sit mat, a light folding chair or a tripod stool if you want to sit down.

Accessibility

There are loos in the pay and display car park at the beginning. There are plenty of cafes in Old Amersham for before and after the sketch-walk.

The session is aimed at adults. Older children can attend with parents- everyone needs a ticket.

Terrain

The level is flat and we will be on paths by the river although they are rough in places. The toal distance is not more than about 1km.

Contingency plan (in case of bad weather): If its due to rain we may have to cancel and we will try and re-schedule the event. Please check your emails if bad weather is forecast.
