In this hands-on workshop, artist Mr. Pintamuro will guide participants through the fundamentals of vintage anime and manga character design, drawing inspiration from the iconic Original Video Animation (OVA) era and the visual language of Shōwa-period manga.

Workshop Schedule
Introduction & Context (10 Minutes)
Explore the distinctive look of 1980s–1990s anime and manga, including the artistic influences, design trends, and visual storytelling techniques that defined the golden age of OVAs.
The Anatomy of a Hero or Villain (20 Minutes)
Learn how classic anime characters are constructed by breaking faces, hairstyles, and expressions into simple geometric forms. Special attention will be given to creating expressive eyes and memorable silhouettes.
Guided Sketching Session (45 Minutes)
Follow a step-by-step drawing process from rough gesture sketches to clean linework. Participants will receive personalized guidance and feedback throughout the session to help bring their character to life.
Final Touches & Discussion (15 Minutes)
Discover traditional finishing techniques including inking, watercolor or gouache application, shading methods, and professional tips for achieving an authentic vintage anime look. The workshop concludes with a group share, discussion, and Q&A with Mr. Pintamuro.
