Skate Lab Fall: Back to Basics! Sep 24-Oct 29, 2026
About this Event
Why Join This Session?
We're kicking off the fall season with six weeks of Back to Basics—a little more technique, a little more repetition, and plenty of Skate Lab fun.
We'll work on foundational skills like balance, edges, stride, transitions, and control, with progressions and optional challenges for skaters who are ready to take things a little further. If you've been off skates for a while, want to get more comfortable, are trying out a new skate setup, or simply want to sharpen your fundamentals, this is a great session to jump into.
Expect open skate, guided drills, roller dance, games, experiments, some silliness, and plenty of encouragement. We'll work hard when we feel like it, laugh a lot, and make room for everyone to challenge themselves at their own pace.
New to Skate Lab? You're absolutely welcome.
This session is for skaters who have some experience on roller skates and can get themselves around the rink independently and safely. You don't need to be “good,” polished, or particularly graceful! If you can stand, roll, turn, and stop on your own and are comfortable skating around other people, you're ready to join us. If you're unsure, check out the Basic Skills Requirements in the FAQ below or reach out before registering. This is not a learn-to-skate program for someone who has never skated before. If you're still working on standing, rolling, stopping, or getting around the rink independently, you'll want to build those skills before joining us.
Not so new to us? Welcome back.
Returning skaters will recognize the familiar Skate Lab format, but this time with a little more focus on technique and repetition, with options to challenge yourself to level up your skills.

Why Skate Lab?
Come for the skating. Stay for the people, the laughs, and whatever ridiculous shenanigans we come up with that week.
- Get better on skates — Build balance, control, edges, stride, transitions, and confidence through practice and repetition.
- Move your body — Get some exercise without it feeling like another workout.
- Have actual fun — Games, dance, silly whistles, and the occasional questionable idea.
- Try something new — Play with skills, styles, and techniques without needing to be perfect at them.
- Embrace experimental fun — Skate Lab is intentionally a fluid choose-your-own-adventure experience. We try things, make things up, and occasionally see what happens.
- Find your people — Encourage each other, cheer each other on, and get to know the folks you're sharing the rink with.
- Be a little extra — Wear the outfit. Dance to the song. Try the thing. Skate Lab is a place to show up as yourself.

About Skate Lab:
Skate Lab is a weekly skate party where the goal is simple: have a really good time on roller skates.
We mix open skate, roller dance, skating drills, games, silly challenges, and whatever other experiments we dream up. Some weeks we're working on skills. Some weeks we're playing games. Sometimes we're trying something completely ridiculous. There are silly whistles, plenty of laughing, lots of encouragement, and absolutely no pressure to take ourselves too seriously.
Skate Lab is a place to move your body, get better on skates, meet people, blow off some steam, or just have somewhere to go on a weeknight. For some people, it's exercise. For others, it's a social night out. For some, it's become their third place, a place where they know they'll see friendly faces and have a reason to show up.
You can come to challenge yourself, learn something new, dance, sweat, socialize, or wear that completely fabulous outfit you've been waiting for an excuse to wear.
There’s no scoreboard and no single right way to participate. The format is fluid and intentionally choose your own adventure. We encourage each other, try things, cheer each other on, and have a blast while we're at it.
Skate Lab isn't roller derby practice, a traditional fitness class, or a learn-to-skate program for total beginners. It's something a little harder to categorize , a weekly excuse to get on wheels and have fun together.
Your Skate Lab Crew
Skate Lab is led by Headbutty Holly, with help from the amazing Zelda and Kaitlin. Together, we bring the drills, the games, the encouragement, and probably at least one ridiculous idea each week.
