About the Movie:
When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit (German: Als Hitler das rosa Kaninchen stahl) is a 2019 German drama film directed by Caroline Link. It is based on the semi-autobiographical novel by Judith Kerr.
In 1933 Berlin, Anna is only nine years old when her life changes from the ground up. To escape the Nazis, her father Arthur Kemper, a well-known Jewish journalist, must flee to Zurich. His family; Anna, her 12-year-old brother Max, and their mother Dorothea; follow him shortly thereafter. Anna must leave everything behind, including her beloved pink rabbit, and face a new life full of challenges and privations abroad. Initially the family lives in Switzerland, but even there they come to feel the antisemitism. And when money becomes scarce, and Anna's father can't find work as a journalist and Jewish person, they move on to France, where they are no longer subjected to racial discrimination, but they struggle financially. Eventually the entire family manages to go to England.
