About this Event

Site Visit to Adelaide Uni’s Laboratory for Cyber-Physical-Human Systems

Meet at Level 4 Hub Central, North Tce (East) Adelaide, before 2pm

The Laboratory for Cyber-Physical-Human Systems, Room NG08 Engineering North, at Adelaide University is used for experiments with robots used in advanced manufacturing systems, and rover/drone-based autonomous systems. A featured project is the Shadow Robot, which uses a wearable exoskeleton to control dual robotic arms that duplicate human motions and poses in real time. This development will allow humans to remotely control robotic arms for high-risk operations while remaining in the processing loop. The project is also expanding to space mission options, in which operators can operate robotic arms on the moon simply by moving their arms. The Lab also working with Zoos South Australia to use rovers and drones for enrichment activities for animals such as cheetahs, lions, and African painted dogs. This offers unique opportunities for zoo-housed animals to receive additional stimuli through simulated hunting experiences, similar to what they would encounter in the wild.

PLEASE NOTE: the size of the group is strictly limited to 25 people. Tickets will be issued on a first-come first-served basis.

Our Tour Leader
Dr Xin (Vernon) Yuan. Lecturer, School of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering.

Vernon lectures on digital, electronics and autonomous systems, coordinates industrial, public and University collaboration for this research. His main research is in the development of intelligent robotic systems to implement human-like intellectual functions. and in particular on new methods of constructing Artificial General Intelligence and Advanced Uncrewed Systems, to reduce the risk to people in high-risk manufacturing and processing operations.

Registration is free.

Members and visitors are welcome.
