SIPP × Irish Entomology Network Joint Conference 2026

Plants, Pests, Pollinators, Policy & People

Friday, 16 October 2026
Teagasc Ashtown, Dunsinea Lane, Dublin 15, D15 KN3K

The Society of Irish Plant Pathologists (SIPP) and the Irish Entomology Network (IEN) are pleased to invite you to our 2026 Joint Conference, bringing together researchers, students, practitioners, industry, government and policy professionals working across plant health, entomology and applied biology.

The conference will provide a forum for sharing research, discussing emerging challenges and building connections across traditionally linked disciplines.

Topics will span areas including:

  • Plant pathology and plant health
  • Entomology and insect pests
  • Pollinators and biodiversity
  • Crop and horticultural systems
  • Forestry and forest health
  • Biosecurity and invasive species
  • Diagnostics, surveillance and monitoring
  • Plant health and environmental policy
  • Applied research and innovation

We particularly encourage participation from across academia, government, research organisations, industry, NGOs and the wider plant health and entomology communities.

Submit an Abstract

We welcome abstract submissions from researchers, practitioners and students working across plant pathology, entomology, plant health and related areas of applied biology.

There are three presentation formats available:

Oral Presentation

12-minute presentation + 3 minutes for questions

Oral presentations provide an opportunity to present research, projects, surveillance programmes, applied work or other developments relevant to the conference themes.

Short Talk

5-minute presentation

Short talks are designed for concise presentations of new research, early-stage work, interesting observations, emerging projects or other topics that would benefit from a rapid presentation format.

Poster Presentation

A0 poster

Posters will be displayed during the conference, with a dedicated poster session providing time for attendees and presenters to discuss their work.

BSc & MSc Student Sponsorship

SIPP and IEN are also supporting participation from the next generation of plant health and entomology researchers.

Sponsorship is available for BSc and MSc students wishing to attend the 2026 Joint Conference.

Students interested in receiving support can apply here:

We strongly encourage undergraduate and Master's students with an interest in plant pathology, entomology, plant health, biodiversity, forestry, horticulture, agriculture or related areas to apply.

Students are also encouraged to submit their work for consideration as an oral presentation, short talk or poster.

Who Should Attend?

The conference is open to anyone with an interest in plant health, entomology and applied biology, including:

  • Researchers and academics
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Plant health and biosecurity professionals
  • Entomologists and plant pathologists
  • Agricultural, horticultural and forestry professionals
  • Government and policy professionals
  • Industry representatives
  • Environmental and biodiversity organisations
  • Diagnostics and surveillance specialists

Whether your work focuses on a pathogen, an insect, a crop, a forest, an ecosystem or the policies that help protect them, the conference aims to create opportunities for exchange across disciplines.
