Sip of Science Series - 'What Remains' - Stories of Memory, Place, & What Endures

In recognition of Native American Heritage Month, Assateague Coastal Trust (ACT), in collaboration with Emily Collins, founder and producer of *Past & Currents: Stories from the Shore*, invites you to a special evening of storytelling, reflection, and community connection as part of ACT’s Sip of Science series.
This gathering will bring together Indigenous, African American, and historic voices from Maryland’s Eastern Shore to share personal stories, experiences, and perspectives that illuminate the people, histories, and cultures that have shaped our region.
Our panel will feature: Dr. Clara Small, Bernadette Cannady, Newell Quinton, and Chief Donna Abbott. Through an informal, story-centered conversation, each participant will share a meaningful experience or reflection connected to memory, ancestry, land, family, tradition, identity, and belonging.
Guided by the theme 'What Remains', the evening will explore the stories we inherit, the histories we carry, the traditions we preserve, and the connections that endure across generations. Together, we’ll reflect on the importance of remembering voices that have too often gone unheard and honoring the experiences that continue to shape our communities today.
At its heart, 'Past & Currents' is about bringing neighbors together through stories we might not otherwise have the opportunity to hear. This is an invitation to listen with curiosity, learn from one another, and deepen our understanding of the rich and complex histories of the Eastern Shore.
