Join us for an immersive tasting experience featuring a curated selection of premium sake, Japanese whisky, and specialty Umeshu (Plum Wine).

Whether you're a seasoned enthusiast or completely new to Japanese liquors, this guided tasting will introduce you to unique flavor profiles, brewing traditions, and cultural insights that make each sip unforgettable.

Each of the 4 spirits featured throughout the evening will be paired with a specialty appetizer to tantalize any palate. This will include fresh sushi rolls prepared by our very own Sushi Chef, Pan, right in front of our guests so they can see the delicate techniques necessary. We will also be featuring a crafted selection of other small plates traditionally served at an Izakaya.

We will be joined by David Escobar Martin from Vintage Imports who will guide our guests through the unique flavors and brewing practices.

Starting from the bottom as a server and chef at a Japanese restaurant to pay his way through college, David soon learned every position before transitioning to the white tablecloths of an upscale French restaurant. After a move to Pittsburgh, he became the service manager, and later General Manager, of a prominent Italian restaurant. In 2019 he began working at Vintage Imports as the newest representative for the company in both Pittsburgh and State College, confirming his absolute obsession with wine and continuing what that bottle of Pétrus had started so many years ago.

Traditional entertainment will be provided by the talented Yuko Eguchi:

Yuko Eguchi, a native of Tokyo, Japan, holds a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from the University of Pittsburgh. Her dissertation focused on the music and dance of Japanese geisha, specifically kouta and koutaburi. In 2021, she earned the master title of kouta, Kasuga Toyo Yoshiyu. Yuko currently works as an HR and Administrative Assistant at Wheeling-Nippon Steel and continues to teach Japanese traditional arts at various higher education institutions.
