Sink or Float Challenge - DESIGN. BUILD. SURVIVE!
Crew 247 is hosting the ultimate "Sink or Float" Homemade Boat Competition, and you’re invited! This is an open community event for youth ages 14–20 and their friends. No experience or fancy equipment required to jump in on the fun.
CHOOSE YOUR DIVISION:
📦 1. Standard Class (Novice) - Low pressure, maximum chaos, and high fun.
The Rules: Bring your own cardboard and duct tape. Build a container vessel, hop in with your crew, and see if you can make it without sinking! If you have a PFD, please bring it!
⚙️ 2. Outlaw Class (Advanced) - For the "serious" builders, future engineers, and competitive crews.
The Rules: $100 material budget limit, custom human-powered propulsion, and full technical documentation. (See full breakdown below!) If you have a PFD, please bring it!
📋 OFFICIAL OUTLAW CLASS RULES & REGULATIONS
(For teams competing in the Advanced Division)
General & Budget Rules: Boats must be human-powered and built specifically for this competition. They can be prebuilt and brought to the competition.
Material Budget: Total purchased materials cannot exceed $100. (Tools do not count toward budget).
Team Size: Minimum 2 people per boat (no maximum). All team members must actively help build and ride in the boat simultaneously during the race.
Prohibited Items:
🚫 No prebuilt boats, kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, or commercial hulls.
🚫 No motors or powered propulsion systems.
🚫 No commercial marine assemblies making up the main build.
Judges reserve the right to disqualify any boat deemed unsafe. Good sportsmanship is required! Awards will be presented!
