What a way to celebrate a decade of Speakeasy Jazz Club with cool, suave and sophisticated Simon Spillett - a giant on the British jazz scene.
He is inspired by John Coltrane and Stan Getz but his major influence is the great Tubby Hayes. In a league of his own, he is a masterful tenor saxophonist who plays with imagination and fluency, often at breakneck speed and mind-blowing intensity. He is a hard bopper who generates huge excitement, passion and swagger on stage.
Simon has worked with Sir John Dankworth, Stan Tracey, Art Themen and Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra. He has also written ‘The Long Shadow of the Little Giant’, a biography of Tubby Hayes and lovingly recreated some of Tubby’s most famous tunes as well as lesser-known ones with a big band made up of the cream of British jazz. The band has taken the jazz world by storm and perform to sell-out audiences nationwide, including Ronnie Scott’s.
