This program takes place at our French Quarter Visitor Center - 419 Decatur St, New Orleans, LA 70130. Admission is free and open to the public, seating is limited and offered first come, first served basis.The Silver Swan Ragtime Ensemble, led by Patrick Mackey will present “Cultural Cargo: American Music that Sailed on Ships” in honor of Sail 250 New Orleans. The program will include American pieces that relate to the sea or shipping in a variety of ways. There will be some Joplin, Gottschalk, Edward MacDowell, an Irish jig, and some German music, among other things. The program will explore how music was affected by maritime travel, both in the Northeast and in the South, from Europe, Africa, South America, and the Caribbean.
New Orleans will be the first stop as America welcomes the tall ships of the world to the Port of New Orleans for a nationwide celebration of America's 250th anniversary! Between May 28 and June 1, 2026, we will celebrate America's Semi-quincentennial with the largest-ever flotilla of tall ships from around the world creating a majestic nautical spectacle along the historic Mississippi River. Along with the majestic tall ships flotilla, a diverse array of events, festivities and celebrations will be held across the entire region to educate, entertain and engage audiences from across the country and across all communities.
