PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This session will explore recent legislative amendments and emerging trends in caselaw affecting the construction industry. Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of how these changes impact owners, sureties, general contractors, and program managers, along with practical strategies for implementing them in day-to-day project and contract management.
FEATURED SPEAKER
Michael S. Blackwell is an equity partner at Riess LeMieux, LLC, where he represents clients across the construction industry, including general contractors, subcontractors, owners, developers, insurers, and sureties. His practice covers contract negotiation and drafting, construction disputes, corporate transactions, and commercial litigation, with experience before arbitration panels, administrative tribunals, judges, and juries. He regularly lectures on Louisiana construction law updates, ethics, and liability for engineers, construction managers, and public entities.
Mr. Blackwell has served as Chairman of the Construction Law Committee for the New Orleans Bar Association since 2017 and has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America in Construction Law and Commercial Litigation. Since 2023, he has been named a Super Lawyer in Construction Litigation.
