Since 2009, the Silver Skate Festival has hosted a fire sculpture installation. This spellbinding spectacle of light serves as a grand finale to the Silver Skate Folk Trail stories. Fire Sculpture artists were asked to consider and reflect on the following statement to inspire their builds:
“In our quest through life we all occasionally face a battle with darkness. Sometimes we become lost in the dark. Am I good enough? Can I conquer my fear of failure? This journey from darkness to light asks how we can regain our voice, to sing once again.”
The burn starts at 7:45 p.m. sharp on the day of each build to celebrate renewal and the release of thoughts that make us sad or any fear or regret that chases love from our hearts.
You are invited to take part in a Silver Skate tradition by writing a fear or a wish on a slip of paper and bringing it to the Lantern Making Tent at the start of the Folk Trail before the burn. The gathered wishes and fears will be placed on the Fire Sculpture and set ablaze, releasing it all into the night.
Winter is magic, and the outdoor experiences in our city are limitless.
Toques off to all of the volunteers, sponsors, community partners, and amazing staff that make this winter celebration possible. We appreciate your generosity and hard work.
Thank you for your support of the Silver Skate Festival!
