You are all cordially invited to attend a festive event featuring one Marco Melfi, a stellar, Edmonton based poet who hails from the Steeltown of Ontario.
The master of ceremonies will be the jolly (and illustrious) Kathy Fisher.
A prime location for poetry readings, The Kasbar is an exotic lounge with a superb Greek Mediterranean menu and an equally excellent selection of spirits, ale, wine. There will also be a great selection of non-alcoholic beverages, including eggnog.
Under the auspices of the stars, we dare you to partake in an exciting evening of comedy and drama. Come and forge new friendships, or mend old ones anew. But above all, come and sate your sense of adventure - come and have fun.
We will also be holding a mini-food drive to help those in need. A deposit box will be located at the entrance.
🂡 Marco Melfi has been involved in the Edmonton poetry community since 2011. He currently volunteers on the board of the Edmonton Poetry Festival. He won the Fiddlehead’s 2021 Ralph Gustafson Poetry Contest and has had poems published in Arc Poetry Magazine, the Literary Review of Canada, The New Quarterly, and other Canadian magazines. His first full-length collection of poetry, Routine Maintenance, was published by Gaspereau Press in the Spring of 2025.
🂡 Kathy Fisher is an Edmonton-based, Montreal-born multidisciplinary artist, performance poet and documentarian. You’ll often see her as a feature or host in the literary, festival and spoken word scene. A peripatetic person, inspiration for her poetry stems from travels and times in global and regional locales: be they Egypt or Australia, Istanbul or Cobalt, Lake Memphremagog or Sulphur Mountain. Her poetry has been published in chapbooks, anthologies, in traditional and on-line literary journals, and produced on radio, television and numerous CDs. In 2023, she wrote, directed and produced her Spanish-flu themed show, Vox Virago with a six-person ensemble. Her video-poem wabi-sabi, co-produced with filmmaker Louise Abbott, screened in LA in November 2024 at The Film and Poetry Symposium where Fisher delivered “[a]n ardent yet comedic poetry recital”. Poetry informs Fisher's life and is the lens through which she researches in law, salvages and restores old homes, and tracks down clues in history, heritage and genealogy.
“Her poems are beautiful narratives, a lyrical weave of words that move you through the stories she wants to tell about life, death and everything in between." ~ Edmonton Examiner
