SiliconValleyOpera presents Turandot 2026
About this Event
Puccini’s Masterpiece Turandot Comes to San Jose This Fall!
Silicon Valley Opera, led by soprano and artistic director Keiko Kagawa, will present Giacomo Puccini’s magnificent final opera, Turandot, on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at the historic Hoover Theater in San Jose.
Founded in 2008, Silicon Valley Opera was created with a simple and welcoming vision: to bring great opera closer to the local community. For many people, the word “opera” may suggest an intimidating experience—formal dress, expensive tickets, or a trip to a major opera house. Silicon Valley Opera offers something different: an opportunity to experience authentic opera in a warm, intimate neighborhood theater at an affordable price.
Under the leadership of Keiko Kagawa, Silicon Valley Opera brings together professional artists and members of the local community to create performances filled with both artistic excellence and personal warmth. Kagawa graduated from Japan’s Kunitachi College of Music and earned a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. An accomplished soprano, she has performed extensively in opera and concert repertoire throughout her career.
Puccini’s Turandot is a grand tale of love, courage, and transformation set in an imagined ancient China. For this production, Turandot is reimagined along the ancient Silk Road, bringing a fresh cultural and visual dimension to Puccini’s timeless masterpiece. Filled with magnificent choruses, colorful orchestration, and soaring melodies—including the celebrated aria “Nessun dorma”—Turandot portrays love as a force powerful enough to overcome fear, cruelty, and even the most guarded heart.
Adding a special dimension to this production is the Yamaha Electone, a sophisticated electronic keyboard capable of recreating the rich colors and textures of a full orchestra. Acclaimed Electone artist Mayumi Ashiya will travel from Japan especially to join this production, bringing her artistry and expertise to Puccini’s magnificent score. With its multiple keyboards, pedals, and remarkable range of orchestral sounds, the Electone will allow audiences to experience the grandeur and dramatic power of Turandot in the intimate setting of the Hoover Theater.
Presented at San Jose’s historic Hoover Theater, this intimate production offers an accessible and engaging introduction for newcomers while creating a memorable experience for longtime opera lovers, families, and visitors to the Bay Area.
Come experience the timeless grandeur of Turandot, brought to life by the artistry, passion, and vibrant spirit of Silicon Valley’s creative community.
