Come see and hear what it was like to experience a silent film back in the 1920’s! Theatre organist Jelani Eddington returns to Duluth’s First United Methodist Church (aka “The Coppertop”) to accompany the silent film “The Freshman” on Friday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m. This will be Eddington’s second silent film at the church. Last spring, he accompanied the comedy “Safety Last!” to great acclaim. This year, he returns to accompany “The Freshman,” a silent film comedy about a college freshman trying to become popular by joining the school football team.
This event is co-sponsored by First United Methodist Church and the Arrowhead Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. All ages are most welcome. Admission is free, with a $15 suggested donation.
“The Freshman” stars Harold Lloyd, one of the most popular film comedians of the silent era. This comedy gem was Lloyd’s biggest box-office hit and contains one of the most famous sports sequences ever filmed. It was one of Lloyd’s few films to remain widely available after the sound era.
Jelani Eddington is a renowned concert artist known for exceptional performances on the theatre pipe organ. His technical expertise and expressive artistry captivate audiences, earning him widespread acclaim and a dedicated following in the concert circuit. He has performed at numerous national and regional conventions of the American Theatre Organ Society and has produced over 30 theatre organ albums. One of his most notable achievements was his viral performance of the Star Wars Symphonic Suite, which garnered millions of views on YouTube, demonstrating his broad appeal.
