Have you been to a Silent Book Club yet? Every fourth Saturday, your own book or buy a new one and let's read together! Here's what to expect: Take the first half hour to order your drinks, grab a good seat, and check in with your friends. At 6:30 pm one of us will announce that the silent reading has begun and we'll throw on some jazz and read silently for an hour. At the 7:30 pm, we'll announce that the hour is up and if you want to continue reading you can, or like a traditional bookclub, you can chat with those around you about the book you're reading (and hopefully get a great book recommendation and make a new friend!)
What is Silent Book Club? Silent Book Club is a global community of readers, with more than 500 chapters in 50 countries around the world led by local volunteers. SBC members gather together to read in quiet(ish!) camaraderie. There's no assigned reading or discussion guides—that's the "silent" part of our book club—but we do like to share book recommendations and meet like-minded readers. To reserve your spot we require a $5 deposit that can be used towards a purchase that night. We've shifted to "deposit-based" ticketing to discourage no-shows with commonly sold out events. Emily gave us the brilliant idea of giving the option of a $5 paper coupon that you can use at a later date if you don't want to purchase something that night so we'll start handing out your $5 coupon this Saturday if you decide not to put it towards something that night.
