Discover the joys of signwriting in Street! Joby Carter, one of the world’s leading experts on signwriting, fancy lettering and fairground art will be opening his workshop doors on Saturday 7 March from 10-4pm for a free public open day.
Since relocating to Street in January 2025, Joby has transformed his workshop into a hub for traditional signwriting, hosting hundreds of students throughout the year. His aim has been to establish this workshop in Street to be globally recognised as ‘the home of traditional signwriting’.
The goal is to champion traditional skills in this digital age.
At the open day you can...
🖌️ See Joby and some of his signwriting students creating hand painted lettering by hand using traditional techniques – no computers or modern design apps!
🎨 Browse the specialist signwriting supply shop which sells enamel paint in Joby’s bespoke retro colour range, signwriting brushes and a range of professional grade signwriting tools and accessories
🖼️ Choose up a unique gift or some quirky homeware featuring retro style lettering designs hand painted by Joby. His range includes fridge magnets from £4.50, tea towels, coasters, fine art prints and one-off hand painted signs. Ideal opportunity for unique Mothers Day gifts.
📕 Pick up one of his popular signwriting books which showcase traditional signwriting skills which have been passed down since Victorian times. Joby can even sign your copy on the day.

Admission: Free entry for all. Well behaved dogs are welcome on a lead.
