Sights & Sounds: Community Audience Collaborative (2.0)
Audience members are invited to do more than just listen. Each attendee will be provided with supplies to make art while they listen to live music from local musicians: RoseAu + Shiv. No artistic expertise is required. Creative curiosity welcomed! This event is FREE, no tickets, first come first serve.
Jess from Naeco Studio will offer guidance on ways to create visual art inspired by the sounds and performances occurring. (Yes, doodles and stick figures are valid). At certain points, the audience will be invited to show the musicians a quick peek of their art, making the performance space one of reciprocity and co-creation.
RoseAu and Shiv are both local, emerging, musicians. Their vibes and genre choices are distinctive. You may hear a few metal growls ... and you may also hear some nostalgic theme songs. Lots of range!
Doors will open at 6:45pm. Music starts at 7:00pm until 9:00pm with a break in the middle. This event is operating on a first-come, first-serve basis abiding room capacity regulations. A volunteer will greet you with supplies and direct you to seating. Attendees can grab a drink, doodle, and chat while they wait for the event to start. Provisions are available to purchase but not required.
This is an all ages event but minors must be accompanied by a guardian. This event may not be suitable for young children or those with auditory sensitivities. Disposable ear plugs will be offered upon entry. Participants may be photographed for promotional and archival purposes. Any artwork made at this event can be taken home!
There is a deep need for community spaces, creative outlets, and intentional time spent listening together. We are so excited to be running this again! See you there.
Important: This event is FREE! The formality of "ticket sales" is required by Eventbrite, but there will be no ticket sales at the door. Just show up on time and come on in.
*This offering was made possible thanks to the generous support from the Guelph Neighbourhood Support Coalition's "Activating Community Micro Grant". This is the second iteration of Sights & Sounds to receive this grant support. This year prioritized communities beyond the downtown core. Many neighbourhoods with BIPOC, racialized, diasporic, and/or newcomer communities are routinely underserved when it comes to accessible community events. This prioritization influenced the location of the event, areas advertized to, as well as the musicians selected.
