Cassandra Dallett lives in Oakland CA. Cassandra has published multiple chapbooks and full-length books of poetry, (two of whichOn Sunday, A FinchandCollapseboth on Nomadic Press, were nominated for CA Book awards.) She has been nominated for six Pushcart Prizes and was recently in the running for Oakland’s first Poet Laureate, Cassandra has graced many stages, hosts the weekly writing workshop ONTWOSIX, is co-host of the quarterly-themed reading series MoonDrop Productions, host of The Badass Bookworm Podcast, and The Badass Bookworm’s Lit Loft. Her most recent book of poetry,A Pretty Little Wildernesscame out on Be About It Press June of 2020.

Cadence Myles is a dynamic live musician from Oakland, known for her unique fusion of rock, R&B, country, and pop. She performs solo and with various groups, showcasing her drumming, guitar, and songwriting. On her list of past collaborations are notable artists and organizations, including the Oakland Symphony, Dwayne Wiggins, and multiple poet laureates. She has very few studio recordings because she prioritizes live performances to connect with her audience. Kevin Dublin is an educator, poetry filmmaker, and writer of grants, poetry, prose, scripts & code. He produces readings, publishes others, and facilitates partnerships in the Bay through Living Room SF. He’s the author of How to Fall in Love in San Diego & Eulogy. You can find recent work in Brooklyn Rail, Ploughshares, and Living Poets. Kevin believes in you and the power of collective transformation.

Norma Smith is a writer, social researcher, editor, writing coach, and event and conference organizer. She was born in Detroit and grew up in Fresno, California. Her writing has been published in literary, scholarly, and political journals. Norma’s book of poems, HOME REMEDY, is available at https://blacklawrencepress.com/books/home-remedy/

Jeneé Darden is an award-winning journalist, author, public speaker and proud Oakland native. She is the executive producer and host of the weekly arts segment Sights & Sounds as well as the series Sights + Sounds Magazine. Jeneé also covers East Oakland for KALW. Jeneé has reported for NPR, Marketplace, KQED, KPCC, The Los Angeles Times, Ebony magazine, Refinery29 and other outlets. In 2005, she reported on the London transit bombings for Time magazine. Prior to coming to KALW, she hosted the podcast Mental Health and Wellness Radio.



There is a $10 - $20 sliding scale suggested donation for this event. Nobody will be turned away for lack of funds.

  • The event space is just to the left of the main entrance to the Mills Building at 220 Montgomery Street
  • We recommend taking BART/MUNI, exiting at Montgomery, and walking two blocks north
  • Ride-shares can drop off and pick up directly in front of the venue
  • If you drive, there are several garages within two blocks of the event location; free street parking is available across from the venue at 7:00 pm
