Bill Jayne, Immediate Past President of the Cape Fear Civil War Round Table, will lead a round table discussion on General Daniel Sickles at Gettysburg, examining his controversial actions, command decisions, and their impact on the course and memory of the battle. After a brief introduction, a guided discussion will be open to anyone in attendance. The crucial question to be addressed is whether Sickles’ unauthorized movement of the III Corps off of Cemetery Ridge contributed in a positive way to ultimate Union victory or whether victory was achieved in spite of his decision.
