PLAYING IN PERSON AT THE HUB, FRI. JUNE 28TH, 7PM
WICKED LITTLE LETTERS

**This film is showing in-person only at the HUB at Cowichan Station at 7PM on Friday, June 28th.

Running Time: 1hr 40m / Year: 2023/ Production: UK/ Rated 14A

Director: Thea Sharrock

Don’t miss this hilarious British comedy AND you can improve your vocabulary at the same time! Warning – there is some very colourful language in this film for those whose ears may be offended . . . Starring the incomparable Olivia Coleman and Jessie Buckley with a fabulous supporting cast and based on a true story – yes this actually happened in a village in Britain.. When people in Littlehampton–including conservative local Edith (Coleman)–begin to receive letters full of hilarious profanities, rowdy Rose (Buckley) is charged with the crime. Suspecting that something is amiss, the town’s women investigate.

STREAMING SUNDAY - ONLINE - SUN JUNE 30TH - ALL DAY
SMOKE SIGNALS

**This film is showing online only on Sunday, June 30th.

Running Time: 1hr 29m / Year: 1998/ Production: Indigenous/ Rated PG

Director: Chris Eyre

In honour of the Film Club is showing this beloved award-winning classic from 1998. Smoke Signals was the first feature-length film written, directed, and produced by Indigenous filmmakers to reach a wide audience.

The film centers around Spokane Nation's Victor Joseph (Adam Beach), and his quest to retrieve his father’s ashes, accompanied by the quirky storyteller, Thomas Builds-the-Fire (Evan Adams).Full of humour and magic, we go on the journey with them as they move through 1990's America.

It is based on the short story, “This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona” in author Sherman Alexie’s collection, The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven and it inspired the recent, break-out mockumentary hit Hey Viktor! which we hope to show at another time at the HUB Film Club.
