Show Your Style - Bachata Edition - Dance Video Shoot
Introduction:
The bachata dance video event of the year is here! Have you ever wanted a professionally taken video of you dancing to a great bachata song in a grand setting? A video that you can:
- share on social media
- be proud to show all your friends, family and loved ones
- keep as a video momento of your "dancing days"
- use as a progress marker video to see how far you've come on your dance journey
- use as promotional material for your dance career or aspirations
What's happening:
- A dance video shoot held at City of Sydney Creative Studios, a beautiful hall where I have filmed awesome dance videos in the past (see Un Beso teams videos and Kelsi's solo).
- Dancers will have one opportunity/run to dance an improvised partnered bachata to the song "You Put a Spell on Me" by local Sydney DJ Flyan Ryan.

- The dance will be filmed by me! The style of filming will be like what you have seen in professionals' demos. Just pop onto my YouTube channel and you can see some examples or you can see the examples in my Instagram promo video.
- Dancers will have the opportunity to warm up to the song twice before we begin filming each couple separately. It will be like Jack & Jill finals, except each couple will get to dance the whole song one after the next.
Who's it for:
- If you're someone who has danced for a while, practice with a dance partner regularly, already doing Jack & Jill competitions or looking for a new challenge in front of the camera, then this is a great opportunity for you to really show your style!
- Ideally, you should sign up with your dance partner and that is encouraged, however, if your usual dance partner is already participating with another dancer, he or she can sign up multiple times for multiple runs.
- If you don't have a partner, you can sign up one week before the event once we have couples numbers sorted and it will be like a Jack & Jill and you will be paired with someone there who is also looking for a partner.
What you will receive:
- A 4K quality landscape video of your dance which you can share or use on social media.
- The top 3 videos will be chosen by voters and will feature in DJ Flyan Ryan's official music video for his song and be posted on his YouTube channel. Those dancers will also receive the title of 1st, 2nd and 3rd at Show Your Style - Bachata Edition. (Whilst this is not intended to be a competition, these placings will recognise and celebrate the skills, talent and hard work of the top dancers with the best videos.)
- If we have time at the end, we may also take some photos! :D
Event Details:
Date - Saturday, 12 April.
Time - 11am to 1pm
Location - City of Sydney Creative Studios, 119 Bathurst St, Sydney NSW 2000
Cost - $25 per person, i.e. $50 per couple. You would pay at least this much for a Jack & Jill competition or more for a single dance class. At this event you will get your very own awesome dance video!
Please note that due to time constraints, there will be limited spots available for this event. So please book as early as possible!
Also, whilst this event is open to instructors/pros as well, please note that instructor couples will not be eligible for placings unless sufficient instructor couples participate. If you participate as a pro-am couple, you will be eligible for placings. If you don't have a usual dance training partner, hit up your local instructor to get involved!
Postface:
This event's intention is to create good vibes in the community and hopefully result in many fantastic videos which people will share on social media. The goal is to spread the awesomeness of bachata, raise the profile of the dance within the community and encourage people to dance it more, get better at it, go to more classes or try it for the first time. It should also give a nice boost to the profile of Ryan who is a young DJ in the Sydney scene and the only one making bachata music (so much potential). The intention is to grow the scene and community and I hope it will have the same effect that many of my other videos have already had.
