**SHOP WITH A HERO**
We are excited to announce the 2024 Shop With a Hero event.
The program was started to help families with foster children and/or receive social ser-vices benefits from various organizations in the community. Children are paired with a local Hero (law enforcement, fire fighter, EMS, USCG, and various public safety volunteers) and given a budget to Christmas shop for themselves (or their family if they choose). Volunteers on site are available to gift wrap the gifts children purchase. Santa Claus will be there for photos. Hot chocolate, cookie decorating, and ornament decorating have been available as well.
This year will again be at Port Angeles Wal-Mart (3411 Kolenels Way, Port Angeles) on December 7, 2024. It will begin at 10:00am through approximately 1:00pm. Everybody is encourage to stop by. Children will have the opportunity to tour all the emergency vehicles there. There will be fire trucks, ambu-lances, police vehicles, and Coast Guard boats.
If you would like to volunteer there are plenty of spots where we can use your help. Volunteers will be needed for gift wrapping, hot chocolate, cookie decorating, ornament decorating, Santa photos, sign in stations, and plenty more. Reach out to Lt. Jim Thompson (Elwha PD), Sgt. If you would like to make a donation, there are a few different options.
1. Directly to the Port Angeles Police Association @ 321 E 5th St, Port Angeles, WA 98362 c/o Officer Jason Hooper (W9 available upon request). Checks payable to the Port Angeles Police Association (Shop With a Hero in the memo field).
2. Donation by mail to the Friends of Clallam County Child Advocate’s c/o Olympic View Community Foundation PO Box 3651, Se-quim, WA 98382 (Tax deduction letter provided). Checks payable to Olympic View Community Foundation (Shop With a Hero in the memo field).
3. Donation of Walmart gift cards.
4. Venmo donations can be made to the Port Angeles Police Association. Make sure you put a note in Venmo that it is for Shop With a Hero. QR code for Venmo donations below.
