Join us on Sunday 17 January for a traditional Somerset wassail.
Our annual celebration of the apple returns. Join us for a traditional Somerset celebration in the walled orchard at Shoemakers Museum in Street. With music and storytelling and a competition for the finest headdress!!
We will be joined by the Langport Mummers to delight us with music and dance and the legendary Les Davies (Westcountry Man, CBE) will be master of ceremonies as we bless the oldest tree in the orchard which is said to encourage a good crop!
New for this year is Morris Dancing with Savage Sisters and a chance to join in and give it a try! Plus a storytelling marquee for winter tales.
This year get your headdresses ready. Come in winter finery and wear a fancy apple themed headdress and you can enter the competition! Adult and childrens prizes this year. If you need to prepare yours there will be a drop in making session in the museum education space.
Refreshments will be available, including apple juice and cider to keep us warm. This is an outside event so please dress appropriately in warm clothing and outdoor footwear - and remember to wear a fancy apple themed headdress if you wish to enter the competition!
Entry is free with your Annual museum pass. If you don't already have one - avoid the queues and save a little money by buying yours in advance online through the Shoemakers Museum website.
Online: Adults £10, Students £5, Children under 8 free of charge.
There is no need to book in advance for the Shoemakers Wassail.
