Supporting Sustainability Through Shoe Reuse: Each year, over 300 million pairs of shoes end up in landfills, releasing harmful methane as they break down. Since shoes are difficult to recycle, reuse is the best option. By donating, you’ll keep shoes out of landfills, give them a second life, and support UUCW’s fundraising efforts.
Creating Opportunities Through Shoes: Donated shoes become inventory for micro-entrepreneurs in developing countries, helping them earn a living wage while providing affordable footwear in their communities. This project also creates jobs in the U.S., making a difference both locally and globally.
What to Donate: Bring gently worn, used, or new shoes that are still wearable—with intact soles and laces. If you’d wear them again, they’re good to donate! Please avoid shoes that are falling apart, peeling, or full of holes.
