Shivers & Shimmies 2026 brings us the amazing Pierre Khoury from Montreal! Join us for an incredible weekend of workshops: Friday Feb 13, 6-9pm: Modern Oriental
This masterclass workshop is intended for a more advanced dancer. Pierre's signature choreography and recent work in a modern raqs sharqi (bellydance) song. To choreographers and aspiring choreographers: a discussion will follow on the creative process so that you will gain insight on how to be sensitive to the story of the song while choreographing your next piece!
Saturday Feb 14, 10am-12pm: Dabke Time!
This workshop will be an overview of the different ways you can incorporate dabke in your dance! The differences between a stage/wedding dabke vs restaurant will be explored, as well as choreographic steps and oriental styling within dabke. You will practice tapping in your proud self in this folklore that is meant to gather our hearts.
(Note: you may want to bring dance shoes for this one!)
Saturday Feb 14, 1-3pm: Tarab and Emotion Theory
Pierre will bring you into his styling to Tarab music. How to dance stories of breakups, pain from being far from a loved one, or destabilizing love? This workshop is designed to gain knowledge into interpretation of music and how to dance in a way that is representative and sensitive to what the song evokes.
Sunday Feb 15, 10am-12pm: Mergence
Learn the parts to put together a dynamic and refined mergence! Pierre will show you how to capture the changes in musicality and captivate your audience.
Sunday Feb 15, 1-3pm: Shut Up and Dance
In this intensive technique class, you will dive into action by following Pierre on upbeat music. Nothing better than to learn by doing! In between songs, Pierre will explain technical elements, nuances, and some of his secrets, in a personalized approach that will be according to what YOU would like to incorporate in your vocabulary.
