Rev John Horton will talk about his book 'Behind the Wire: A Prisoner of War in Nazi Germany and sign copies. "The book is made up from the wartime correspondence of my late parents, Alan and Peggy Horton. They met in late 1939 and were married in November 1940 with spent cartridges from the Battle of Britain falling on the roof of the Church. Within weeks Alan was sailing from Glasgow down the Atlantic, round the Cape of Good Hope and eventually to Egypt. After some time there, his Battery (he was a gunner) was moved to Crete where the Allies lost the Battle. 12,000 prisoners were taken and Alan was one of them. Alan spent nearly 4 years in different prison camps as a Prisoner of War writing to Peggy whenever he could. The letters are now with the Imperial War Museum who said it was one of the most complete sets of correspondence between husband and wife they have ever seen."
From 1st December, £5 tickets available in advance from Richard Harveys, Church Street, Shipston-on-Stour. Tickets are also available from Eventbrite and on the door which opens at 2:15pm to start at 2:30pm.
