FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE! Please read:Tommy Brull Foundation presents “Shine A Light Music Series” with The Felice Brothers and Merce Lemon 12/29/24. This special show will benefit Tommy’s long time close friend Kate (Perri) Scanio who suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke on 11/17/24.
Tommy had many close unique relationships with his friends while growing up. One of those friends was Kate Perri (now Kate Scanio). Kate and Tommy had a unique and tight bond that flourished while working together for many years at Camp ANCHOR. They were always hanging out, having deep conversations, and always laughing together. This friendship continued while they were both away at college in the form of letters. Oddly enough, right after hearing about Kate’s stroke, I stumbled upon one of Tommy’s old journals. I opened the front cover and a handful of letters from Kate fell out. True to Kate’s artistic nature, these letters were all typewritten on various photos taken out of magazine. After seeing these letters, I realized there was an opportunity for us to help Tommy’s old friend in a real time of need.
Kate suffered a major hemorrhagic stroke on November 17th. She was at home when she suddenly started feeling dizziness and a sharp pain in her head. She called her husband Paul who quickly called 911. After being rushed to the hospital, the surgeons performed and emergency craniectomy. Kate was stabilized temporarily but the neurosurgeons had to operate a second time. She was then transferred to the Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) at Mount Sinai in Manhattan, where she could receive more specialized care. Kate has an amazing team of neurosurgeons, neurologists, physicians, physician assistants, and NSICU nurses caring for her. Kate has made steady progress and is currently off of ventilation and responding a little more each day. The doctors have finally begun talking about recovery.
We all know Kate is strong. She battled cancer seven years ago and going through an aggressive treatment of chemo and radiation, she never lost her drive and amazing sense of humor. Through it all, she remained the creative, loving, and supportive mom, aunt, and friend we know and love. We have no doubt she’ll approach her recovery to this very unexpected event in the same way.
Kate, her husband Paul, and their three boys, Tai (17), Finn (15), and Wolfe (10) have a long, complicated, and likely financially challenging road ahead. Kate need to stay in the hospital and rehab for weeks, and she’ll have months of therapies after that.
The funds raised from The Felice Brothers Show will help defray some of the costs associated with Kate’s treatment and recovery in the hope that the Scanio family can spend all their time focusing on Kate’s recovery rather than worrying about anything else. Any additional contribution will be greatly appreciated.
Tommy would be so happy that our show will help his long time friend and I am sure he is shining down to look after her. Tickets available here:
