Shenandoah Wine Takeover with Ben Jordan from Midland Wines
About this Event
Ben Jordan fell in love with wine through the influence of a few good mentors while working retail wine sales in New York. He moved to California and worked his first vintage at C Donatiello Winery in Healdsburg, California in 2008. After experiences in the lab and cellar in the Russian River Valley and Dry Creek Valley in California, Ben returned to Virginia in 2012 to become the winemaker at Michael Shaps Wineworks. He moved to Early Mountain Vineyards in the summer of 2015 where he served as winemaker as well as crafting the Midland wines (from his family’s Mount Airy vineyard) and the Lightwell Survey Wines. In Summer of 2022, Ben co-founded Common Wealth Crush Co. where he is currently winemaking and running operations.
Now making wine for three labels - Midland Wines, Common Wealth Crush, and Lightwell Survey - Ben has become a well-known name amongst grape growers and winemakers as an innovator and consultant for making world-class Virginia wines. He was recently featured in Eric Asimov's article in the New York Times - , and it is growing ever impossible not to mention his name when discussing the progress of the Virginia wine industry.
Midland is named after Midland Construction, Ted Jordan's carpentry business, founded in the 70s. In 2016 Ted passed the vineyard project to his three sons: Ben, Gray, and Tim, who operate as grape growers and wine producers today. The name, Midland, acknowledges the work they do with their hands and backs, building a family wine business on the ridges and hillsides of the Shenandoah Valley.
To welcome him the right way, we will be pouring a selection of Midland Wines at your discretion for 2 hours! That's right, this is an all-you-can-safely-drink event! Your ticket gets unlimited pours of five Midland wines, a tasting guided by Ben Jordan, himself, and elevated snacks from our chef Tony Chittum.
