The new Center for Story initiative at Shenandoah University promotes and celebrates the power of storytelling to inspire, connect, and transform lives. The center features a robust online presence and incorporates free programs throughout the year to engage the campus and broader community by providing opportunities for creative expression. The center supports story makers of all ages and abilities by nurturing a creative community that works in all formats of communication: oral, digital, filmic, material, and written.
This one-day event will provide students and faculty an opportunity to learn more about the center, its plan for free programs, and the forthcoming MA in Strategic Narrative, directed by Matt Corr. This free festival will feature Shenandoah faculty and experts from a variety of fields, including Chief National Correspondent for Voice of America Steve Herman and former Poet Laureate of Prince William County Kim B Miller.
Free coffee, water, and snacks served throughout.
ABOUT
Launched in 2024 with its monthly Speaker Series, the Center for Story will eventually host a podcast, a blog, and provide resources for students of all disciplines and interests. The center will nurture creativity by encouraging students, faculty, and community members to explore various storytelling forms. The Center for Story celebrates the rich diversity of human experience by providing a platform for storytellers from all walks of life. Through partnerships, events, and advocacy, the center will encourage storytelling that addresses pressing issues and promotes empathy.
