Last May, a film crew spent a week inside Cincinnati Animal CARE capturing something we’ve always wished we could show the world: what REALLY happens inside an open-intake animal shelter.

Now, Cincinnati Animal CARE is coming to the big screen. 🍿🐾

Shelter Me is an Emmy Award-winning PBS series that tells uplifting stories about shelter pets and celebrates the human-animal bond. Shelter Me: Cincinnati takes viewers behind-the-scenes to see the amazing work Cincinnati Animal Care does in the community. As a municipal, county shelter that prioritizes lifesaving and progressive practices to change the way animal shelters operate; their model of ‘sheltering differently’ serves as an example to shelters nationwide. Through showcasing the unique community partnerships, programming highlights, an adoption event, and a comedy fundraising show, we see the best of people working together to improve the lives of homeless pets and the residents of Hamilton County. This episode will be airing on PBS at the end of the year. Shelter Me is powered by Petco Love.
This film benefits the lifesaving work of Cincinnati Animal CARE, Hamilton County, Ohio’s only open-intake animal shelter and sole provider of animal services. Since opening the doors in 2020, Cincinnati Animal CARE has maintained a save rate above 90% while providing sheltering, adoption, foster, animal control, and dog warden services to the Hamilton County community. Powered by dedicated staff, volunteers, fosters, and community partners, Cincinnati Animal CARE works to create progressive, community-based solutions that keep pets with people, reunite lost animals with their families, and find loving homes for animals in need. We do things differently, because we CARE.
